Sandy and Dave owned property at Loon Lake though they lived and worked hundreds of miles away. Sandy came from Springdale and they planned to move back to the area and build their last home on their dream property. As they approached the time in their lives when their plans were near fruition and they relocated to and rented in Spokane, they began searching the internet and the books at Lowe's and the Home Depot in search of a house plan to fit their plans. They had a lot of ideas and they found scads and scads of dreamy variations
that seemed close and then they finally arrived on one that had everything they wanted.
This is the home that they fell in love with on the internet and it had it all, but that was part of the problem. Before they had gotten a hold of me, they first took this rendering and floor plan to a local home design firm. They were told by them that a full set of plans would cost around $7,000 and they could expect to wait more than 3 months. When I took a look at the floor plans, I could see why.
The first thing I asked was what was their budget and when they answered I nodded and then asked what was it they liked about this house. They told me they liked that Bedroom #2 could be turned into Dave's office for his law practice because it was a good distance from the rest of the house and had it's own bathroom. They wanted the covered porch and the vaulted cieling in the living room that opened onto the the deck. They loved the open kitchen and breakfast area and they wanted the bonus room above the garage.
Being a builder and draftsman, I said they could have all that but it would not look at all like the pictures, but it could still be everything they dreamed it would be. I also told them that I could do it for under $2,000 and have it done it two weeks. They told me to get to work.
Working closely together this is the floorplan that we arrived at. It gave them all the things they wanted and I knew that it could be built within the budget they had to work with. I gave them the their plans and did not hear them until the next spring when I recieved an email from
Sandy.
Hello Craig.
Dave and I wanted you to know that our beautiful new home is built! We moved in on January 27th. Thank you for your design. It was the beginning of our process and we thought of you often while we were building.
I made an appointment to visit and was thrilled to see how great a home they and their builder were able to create from the plans we had developed.

This is the kitchen they had hoped for. In the background Also directly off the kitchen are the stairs to I find that a lot of people
is the door to the office that Dave needed. This worked out the bonus room above the garage which they want the back porch and living room cielings
better than the original design because it was so con- thought was perfect. to flow together through the upper windows. niently located right off the kitchen.

This front door and sidelights were really dramatic touches I am a big proponent in situating the fireplace in the back Another thing I like and have found to be quite popular
as was the rich colored accent wall. It is an entry way that corner of the livingroom in moderately-sized homes. This is the bonus room over the garage. It seems there are
informed with flair that this is a home with personality. still allows the feature to warm and enhance the room but so many different uses for this area. I like giving them
does not hog an entire wall and is vented out the back at at least one dormer to add light and room as well as
a minimal cost. exterior curb appeal.
What Sandy and Dave wound up with after years of
years of dreaming, saving and planning was a new
home in a beautiful setting where they can enjoy being
alone or together or with a houseful of guests for the
rest of their lives. And there are few things better than
making a living helping folks like them get that.
